Artist’s Comments: This is a carving of a seal resting on an ice floe with water breaking over it.
The seal is one of the most common Arctic mammals seen while kayaking. It spends its short summers playing and feeding in the fjords, along the shores of Arctic islands, at the point where rivers meet the sea, and near glacial streams.
