Spirit Gazer (Sold)

This piece is a large brown bear in a contemplative pose. The subject of its thoughts give the piece a good deal of interest, in that it enables the viewer to imagine what thoughts are passing through the mind of this wild and beautiful creature. The alabaster from which this bear is carved was unique, in that it was virtually free of the usual quartz impurities, and yet, it inexplicably had a thin white line passing from front to back. This allowed the buyer of the piece to either leave the white stripe as something unique or to dye it with shoe polish, rendering the bear   like the others of his species. I’m not telling…
